Program overview

The American Women Quarters Program is a four year series from the U.S. Mint honoring women who shaped American history across government, science, the arts, civil rights, sports, and more. It was authorized by the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 and commemorates the centennial of the 19th Amendment, which secured voting rights for many American women in 1920.

From 2022 through 2025, the Mint released five new reverse designs each year for 20 quarters in all. Every coin shares the same obverse, a right facing portrait of George Washington originally designed by Laura Gardin Fraser in 1931 and finally put into production nine decades later. The series replaced the America the Beautiful quarters and is one of the better coin roll hunting opportunities to hit circulation in years, since low mintage dates started showing up in ordinary pocket change.

Is this series worth collecting?

Almost every American Women quarter you find in circulation is worth face value, twenty five cents, since the Mint struck hundreds of millions of most dates. The exceptions are the tail end of the series. Mintages dropped sharply for 2025, especially Vera Rubin, Stacey Park Milbern, and Althea Gibson, which had well under half the mintage of a typical 2022 or 2023 release. Those later dates are worth checking rolls and boxes for now, before they thin out of circulation the way early America the Beautiful low mintage dates eventually did.

Collectors chasing more than face value coins usually look at the silver proof sets, struck in 99.9% silver for collectors rather than circulation, and at top graded Mint State examples in red or fully struck condition, which can bring modest premiums for the lowest mintage 2025 dates.

What comes after the American Women Quarters?

The series wrapped up with the Althea Gibson quarter in October 2025. Up next is a 2026 quarter set tied to the United States Semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of American independence, which includes one design honoring a woman among its five coins. After that, a youth sports themed quarter series is planned to run from 2027 through 2030.
